Who Will Survive “Infinity War”?
With the Marvel blockbuster hitting theaters today, students weigh in on which characters will or won’t make it.
Infinity War, the latest Marvel superhero movie will open on April 27, will be an end point for many of the fans’ heros. Thanos, the film’s antagonist, is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, and to demonstrate that, many heroes may die. We can also speculate that because some actors do not have contracts and others have been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for a long time, it is likely new superheroes will take their place. So far, only one Avenger, Quicksilver, has died in a Marvel movie. There are too many interesting heros to exclude from the MCU, so likely, the directors will kill off and retire a few heros from the stories so that more may take their places.
Iron Man, Captain, Vision, Nebula, Loki, Drax, War Machine, Hawkeye and Star Lord all have a large chance of getting killed off. Iron Man and Captain America are the two most popular characters, so to show Thanos’s power, Marvel directors will probably show them the door.
“I think Captain America will die because he is too popular,” said seventh grader Adam Braman. “I think Iron Man will die because he is just a human,” added fellow seventh grader William Harris. Also, Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, and Robert Downey, Jr., who portrays Iron Man, have Marvel contracts that are almost up, and Marvel writers need an excuse to let their characters leave if they want to resign.
Vision, with an actual Infinity Stone in his head which gives him his powers, will likely be killed, as Thanos would have to kill him to get it. Nebula and Drax have had their own revenge schemes for a long time, and will likely do everything to destroy Thanos, even if it means sacrificing themselves. War Machine is not a big character, but Marvel could show how serious the situation is by exterminating his supporting role from the group.
Students also think some will die because they aren’t really powerful. “I think Hawkeye will die or retire because he is too old for the new generation of Avengers,” said seventh grader Aadi Patel. Equipped with a mere quiver of arrows and sharp aim, Hawkeye seems weak in comparison to an alien fleet and Thanos with his Infinity Stones. Star Lord’s death in the comics may also come in the movies. “I think Star Lord will die because he lost all of his powers,” said Harris.
By contrast, Scarlet Witch, Spiderman, Dr. Strange, Thor, and Thanos are most likely going to live to see Avengers Part 4. Scarlet Witch is newer to the team, so it would not make sense they would kill her off this fast. Spiderman and Dr. Strange already have new movies in the making, so it would be strange having a dead superhero as the topic of those movies.
Some characters have changed into much more likeable versions. The MCU just forged a hysterical version of Thor in Thor Ragnarok which was released this past November. Also, if they wanted to kill off Thor, they should have done it in Thor Ragnarok because of the major plot developments. Finally, Thanos the villain will survive to Avengers Part 4 because we have only seen him with the power and space stones in the trailers. It would not be very dramatic if they defeat him well before he is super powerful. Also, he is expected to be the antagonist of Avengers Part 4.
There are even some students that believe all of the heroes will live to the end of Infinity War. When asked if there will be a lot of deaths in the upcoming movie, seventh grader Kiran Spencer said, “No, because all of the heroes are important and Marvel directors won’t want to lose any of them.” This makes sense, as the heroes have fans that want to see them in future Marvel movies, in movies, making more money for Disney, the studio that owns the Marvel franchise.
The signs, though, point to Infinity War as a film where we will have to say goodbye to many of the beloved characters. Thanos is one of the most powerful beings in the universe, so events will get messy. In the comics, he kills half of the universe with a simple snap of his fingers. Will the movies follow in the comics’ footsteps or take it’s own route? I guess we will have to find out on April 27.

This is funny. I don’t want to spoil, but so many predictions in this are wrong.
