TBS Recycling

Diving into our school’s current recycling habits
TBS+Recycling

During the news video in assembly, Mrs. Devine spoke about the importance of recycling on campus. Does Benjamin recycle? Unfortunately, Benjamin doesn’t recycle and should get back into the habit of recycling. Benjamin used to recycle but hasn’t been recycling recently. Should Benjamin start recycling? Should Benjamin try to start recycling again and what part can the community do to help Benjamin recycle? Is it really worth recycling? Recycling only makes a small impact on landfills. Is it really worth making the effort to recycle when it makes a small impact on the environment and landfills?  During the 1960s, the first curbside collections of metals and paper began,  and by the 1970s, the “chasing arrows” symbol was created, and the federal government was awarding grants to kick-start state-run multi-material curbside collection programs.

One of the challenges of recycling is when people put liquids or plastic bags in the recycling bin. Not only will the items not get recycled, but it also causes a strain on facilities and disrupts the recycling process.  Organized Recycling has been around for 333 years, but human recycling dates back to ancient times. While the first recorded instance of paper recycling in Japan can be dated to 1031, ancient cultures commonly reused everyday items long before this – mainly due to lack of resources and lengthy manufacturing processes. The process of recycling is three steps: collection, processing, and remanufacturing into a new product. Recycling is a good thing overall as it helps the Earth maintain the emissions of greenhouse gasses.
